girl, so confusing featuring liz

my andy sachs moment

in the devil wears prada1 , andy sachs is tasked with an impossible feat: getting the unpublished manuscript for the latest harry potter book for miranda's (aka meryl streep) kids. (this movie was released in 2006.)

...and she was able to do it! she called everyone she knew and worked nonstop to avoid losing her job.

i recently had my own version of this story. no, i was not going to lose my job, but i did get my hands on something incredibly, incredibly rare: the nintendo switch 2.

i'll spare some of the boring details, but the short version is that we thought we preordered it, but actually just put ourselves on a waitlist. then, we missed the launch day because we were on vacation 🥲.

by the time we got back, it was basically out of stock everywhere, but because i am competitive, i decided that we would find one:

obviously, i started by reading reddit. reddit is still the most in the know. i found a few (kinda sketchy) fan-made sites that supposedly share the stocks of the switch 2 at various retailers. i refreshed them like 1000x an hour.

i also had the target and walmart sites open for refreshing too. i felt like i was trying to restock2 in neopets. at some point i noticed "2 IN STOCK AT ATLANTIC TERMINAL".

we immediately citibiked as fast as we could. i sprinted up the escalator and passed a few nerds on the way that were definitely looking for the switch 2 too. unfortunately, by the time i got to the electronics section, the store associate said he sold them 10 mins ago!

on the way back, we decided to stop by best buy across the street just to check. there was a huge sign at the front that said "SOLD OUT" but i was determined and asked if there were any returns. somehow, the cashier said "yes, we actually have one. i don't know what the manager's plan is for it though."

thank god their plan was to sell it to us yay!

anyways, the morals of this story are that it never hurts to ask, being competitive gets you far, and andy sachs is the best role model:

p.s. mario kart world is actually very very fun and i'm obsessed witht he outfits.

  1. in case you didn't know, this is my favorite movie of all time and the sequel is currently in the works 🥺.

  2. the art of buying a rare item at face value at a neopets store and reselling it for $$.
