kiki or bouba
as part of my goal to make more things this year, i challenged myself to design a little zine one hour before my print slot at the risolab. (yes, i love last minute deadlines.)
i have no idea where this idea even came from, but my thought was: what if i made a zine of kikis and boubas? if you're not unfamiliar with the concept, the kiki bouba effect is the idea that people associate kikis with spiky shapes and boubas with round shapes.

btw, i tried really hard not to use any pink in this print. i really wanted to replace the red with pink 😭. wouldn't it look so good with pink???
as i was printing, i frantically tried to design a poster for the inside of the design. the more i looked at the kikis and boubas, the more i thought they looked like little characters leading me to the "choose your fighter" concept.
another risolab artist was using yellow, so i tried using lime instead, it turned out pretty cute:
next steps:
- polish the file, so that things are actually aligned 🥲
- explore more gradient variation in some of the backgrounds
- consider adding text on each page about the kikis and boubas
- maybe make the inside poster an 11x17 thing
- do another print run and share the results with the not-residency!
